ANNOUNCEMENT

13th International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics Professor G. F. Carrier, Harvard University, 3 11 Pierce Hall, Cambridge, Massachusetts 02138, U.S.A.

THE 13th International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics will be held at Moscow Universitv. U.S.S.R.. August 21-26. 1972. The Congress is organized by the Congress Committee of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. All enquiries regarding participation in the Congress should be directed to the Secretary of the Local Organizing Committee whose address is as follows : Professor G. K. Mikhailov, U.S.S.R. National Committee on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Leningrad Avenue 7, Moscow A-40, U.S.S.R. People who propose to attend the Congress should notify the Secretary of the Local Organizing Committee as early as possible, preferably by March 1972 (it is desirable to enclose exact mailing address typed in 4 copies on labels). The Secretary in reply will provide full information about registration, accommodation, local sight-seeing tours, etc. Participants will be required to pay a registration fee of 22.50 Rbl (USS 25.00). People accompanying participants will be charged a fee of 11.25 Rbl (US% 12.50). The 13th Congress will encompass the entire field of analytical, solid and fluid mechanics, including applications. About 230 contributed papers will be included in the program and presented in six parallel sessions. A total of 30min will be allotted to each contributed paper, 20 for delivery and 10 for discussion Since the number of papers offered is likely to be much larger than the number which can be included in the program, an international papers committee, assisted by several national committees, will be responsible for selecting papers for presentation. Any participant who wishes to present a paper is requested to send five copies of a summary of 40&500 words to one of the following addresses, according to his country of residence : -I

Becker, Secretary of the IUTAM Congress Committee, Institut fur Mechanik der. Technischen, Hochschule, Hochschulstrasse 1, 61 Darmstadt, FR Germany. Summaries must reach one of the above addresses by March IS, 1972. Any summaries that arrive later cannot be considered for presentation. Summaries may be written in English, French, German or Russian. Each summary should contain at the top the full postal address of the author. Authors will be notified whether their paper has been accepted for presentation in May 1972. The decisions of the international papers committee must be regarded as final and correspondence about the decisions will not be possible. In addition to the summary, an author should submit an abstract of not more than 100 words. In the event that his paper is accepted for presentation, this abstract will be included in the program booklet to be distributed to all participants on their arrival in Moscow. An abstract should be typed in double spacing on an AS-size sheet of paper (21 x 14.8 cm), such that the length of the line does not exceed 17 cm. The title of the paper and the name of the author and his city and country of residence should appear at the head of the sheet in the following style : The Collapse and Rebound of Cavitation Bubbles. The full text of the general and sectional lectures will be published in the Proceedings of the Congress, together with the titles of the contributed papers accepted for presentation. Authors of contributed papers are free to publish their papers in a journal of their choice, although the paper should not appear before the Congress is held. A contributed paper should not have been presented at any international or large national meeting held before the Congress. Any enquiry regarding the submission and presentation of papers should be sent to Professor E. Becker at the previously given address.
