Middle East exhibition MERVAC ' 8 4 - the Middle East environmental refrigeration, ventilation, air conditioning and heating exhibition- will take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 1 6 19 September 1 984. This exhibition has been launched in response to the growing awareness in the Middle East of the need to improve existing facilities for refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation and heating, and the maintenance of

ASHRAE meeting The 1984 ASHRAE meeting will take place 29 January to 1 February in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, in conjunction with the Southeastern Airconditioning Heating, Refrigerating Exposition, the largest environmental control exposition to be held in the Western Hemisphere during 1984. Some sixty individual technical sessions are planned for the meeting, featuring more than 200 speakers. In addition to the technical programme, ASHRAE technical, standards-writing and general standing committees will hold meetings. The Southeastern Airconditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Exposition will include more than 550 exhibitors, covering 190 000 ft 2 of floor space. Following the meeting and exposition,

tours of the environmental control and life-safety systems facilities at Cape Kennedy Space Center and EPCOT in Walt Disney World, both in Florida, are available. Direct fired heat pumps Development of direct-fired alternatives to the electrically driven heat pump will be reviewed at a three day International conference, 19-21 September 1984. Apart from the technical considerations relating to the engineering of the various alternatives, the economic implications in relation to both the industrial and domestic sectors will be considered.
