John Conley Lecture on Medical Ethics William G. Enright, PhD Dr. Enright is executive director of the Lake Family Institute on Faith and Giving at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, and former senior pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis. He is a graduate of Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, California; and McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago, Illinois. His PhD is from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Dr. Enright is currently a director of the Lilly Endowment, Inc., the Wishard Hospital Foundation Board, and a trustee of Hanover College. His civic involvement in Indianapolis has included serving as co-chair of the Mayor’s task force on racism, and serving as a member of Envisioning Indianapolis, the Police Advisory Board, the Board of Directors of the Central Indiana Council on Aging, and the St. Vincent Hospital Advisory Board. He is co-founder of the Celebration of Hope, a program for racial reconciliation, and has been honored by two governors with a “Sagamore of the Wabash” award. He has authored several books, the latest being Channel Markers, and lectured at numerous institutions.
Eugene N. Myers International Lecture Jan Betka, MD, PhD Professor Betka, of Czechoslovakia, received his medical degree from Charles University, Prague, in 1975 and his PhD in 1989. In 1986 he became an associate professor and chair of the department Otolaryngology at Charles University, and then head of the ENT – postgraduate medical school in 1998. Dr. Betka served as president of the Academicus Antonius Precechtel Foundation for Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery in 1992. He is an international member of our Academy, and has held memberships with many societies, including: Slovak ENT, Collegium “Oto-Rhino-Laryngologiculum Amicitae Sacrum” (CORLAS), European Academy of Otolaryngology and Neuro-Otology, and the editorial board of Edition of Head and Neck Medicine. For his important contributions to otolaryngology, Dr. Betka will be giving a lecture on head and neck cancer at this year’s Annual Meeting.
