Removing organochlorine solvents from water The invention a d d r e s s e s the p r o b l e m of low-level c o n t a m i n a t i o n of w a t e r s u p p l i e s b y solvents s u c h a s chloroform a n d c a r b o n tetrachloride. The invention c o n s i s t s of a p u m p , a long silicone r u b b e r hose, a n d a tank. C o n t a m i n a t e d w a t e r is p u m p e d t h r o u g h the hose, a n d the o r g a n o c h l o r i n e c o m p o u n d s leach t h r o u g h t h e h o s e m a t e r i a l into t h e t a n k where t h e y a r e digested b y a n a e r o b i c b a c t e r i a . No p a s s a g e of organic m a t e r i a l is p e r m i t t e d from t h e t a n k into t h e c l e a n e d water, w h i c h is d i s c h a r g e d for f u r t h e r use.
